This Old House Names Best Places to Buy a House

Capitol Heights in Montgomery, Alabama

has been selected by

This Old House

as one of

The Best Places to Buy a House

This is the second annual Best Places to Buy an Old House

contest to be held by the online version of the popular magazine.

Carole King, a resident of Capitol Heights and

Historic Properties Curator at Old Alabama Town,

submitted the neighborhood’s nomination for this recognition.

This Old House was looking for

“Unique, tight-knit neighborhoods…

places that might not be on your radar but deserve to be”

to select as winners.

Homes in the neighborhood are described as

“extraordinary Deep South versions of the

California-style Craftsman”.

This Old House reports one of the reasons for buying in

Capitol Heights includes the local historic designation

of the area that is expected to not only protect the

architectural integrity of the houses,

but will continue to boost property values.

Cynthia McCollister, President of the

Capitol Heights Civic Association, says

“We are extremely happy with this recognition!  We are a

diverse neighborhood of young professionals, retirees, and

everything in between!

Those of us living in Capitol Heights are very aware of the

great place we live. Now many, many others will also know!”

The article features a photograph of The Belser House

located on North Lewis Street.  This home will be featured

along with several others during the annual Capitol Heights

by Candlelight Tour set for Saturday,

December 19 from 3-8 PM.

Homeowners open their doors for guests to enjoy the

architectural features of the houses.  This year’s tour, themed

“Home Is Where the Art Is”

will also feature the works of local artists.
